Your choice of shutter material and style will influence the design options available to you, as well as the windows themselves. Your local Shutters retailer will advise you on both your design options and any optional extras you may wish to consider at a supplement.
Frame Options
There is a range of shutter frame styles and your Shutters retailer will be able to advise on your options.
In some instances you may be restricted by the architecture of your window recesses and the type of windows you have in place. A professional surveyor will consider all the factors, including the more obvious ones such as the whether your window opens inwards or outwards and how far your window handles protrude from the window.
Your plantation shutters will be fitted in one of the three ways:
Inside Recess
Edge of Recess
Outside Recess
Shutter Panels
The configuration of your windows and the location of the transom bar will influence the number of shutter panels you need. Plantation shutters look as stunning from the outside as the inside, and the panels can be lined up to your window frames for a completely uniform look. All shutters are made to measure, so you can be sure of a perfect fit.
Our panel installation styles are:
Single Shutter Panel
This is exactly as it sounds, you have one single window shutter panel situated within the frame.
A good example of this would be a small single window installation or perhaps a single French door.
Bi-Fold Shutter Panels
This is the name we give to two shutter panels hinged together. When opened the two married plantation shutters fold at the hinged joint.
Multi-Fold Shutter Panels
When more than two plantation shutters are hinged together we call this a Multi-Fold installation. Each section of panels will fold in a concertina action.
The maximum amount of panels we can hinge together without utilising a tracking system is four, depending on the shutter material chosen. Lighter hardwoods enable you to have more hinged panels unlike heavier MDF and ABS.
Louvre Sizes
The size of louvre you choose depends on your own personal choice, the suitability for the installation and the restrictions of the material you have selected.
You need to think about aesthetics and proportions, but also how much light and privacy you want. The smaller the louvres, the greater the privacy and less light. Larger louvres will give you a better view of outside and plenty of light but less privacy. The majority of customers tend to opt for a mid size louvre.
Sizes available:
Curved Louvres: 32mm, 47mm, 64mm, 76mm, 89mm, 114mm
Flat Louvres (Only on Sumatra): 60mm, 84mm
Tilt Rods
All shutters, unless you have opted for solid panels, require a mechanism to enable you to adjust the light.
A silent tilt mechanism option is available as an upgrade.
Mid Rail
Accessories
Other options include hinges, catches, magnets and ring pulls which will be based on your choice of material and style, and whether you wish to match the shutters to your other furniture, for example door handles and light switches.
